Lauren's only 16 months old, but she wants to go potty by herself. This is strange when you consider that both her older cousins, Michaela and Charlotte are both just learning the art of using a potty and they're both older than Lauren by over a year. We've had a baby potty chair since she was just a few months old and it's always been in our bathroom. She's always known that it's for her to sit on and about a month ago I think she figured out what it's for.
Now almost every morning she sits on the potty and gives us a number 2, in addition to using it for number 1's throughout the day. We did interrupt her schedule last week for Thanksgiving, but quickly realized she really, really wanted to sit on a potty, and she refused to sit on an adult one, so we had to run out to Wal-mart to get her a baby potty to use for the rest of our trip to Wyoming. She was holding her bowel movement and refused to go for a day until she got her potty.
We're back home from our trip and sure enough, this morning, she sat on the potty and gave us a number 2. She also knows how to tell us she wants to go potty throughout the day. She pats herself on the stomach and that's her signal that she needs to go potty. Our big problem now is that her daycare isn't potty ready at her age level. So they have to make her use her diaper, which she's not very happy about. It just makes her pat herself more to show her urgency for needing to go. We're hoping this doesn't make her regress her potty training.
For us, it means we have to take a baby potty with us where ever we go. So if you see us toting a potty chair, you'll know why.
