An Angel for Halloween

Halloween this year was still successful even with having to go to Chinese school.  I got Lauren prepped in her angel costume, and off to Chinese School early.  We parked at the high school got out and took her into the surrounding neighborhood and let her knock on a few doors before Chinese school started.  She was worried it was too early, and not quite dark to go "trick-or-treating", but I was able to point out a few other kids that had also started, even though they were much younger than she is.

After getting a base layer of candy in her Halloween bucket we walked back to Chinese school.  The class started at 7:00PM, and she participated happily with the other students until 7:40 when the Halloween parade started.  All kids walked from classroom to classroom collecting treats from the class parents stationed in front of each classroom.  Lauren complained that usually she doesn't get much from these Halloween trick-or-treat parades, so I made sure when the kids got back to the classroom, that they each also received a full-size candy bar to add to the baskets.

After class ended, we drove home and I let Lauren knock on 3 or 4 more doors around our neighborhood even though it was rather late (after 9:30) and she collected a few more pieces of candy before getting back home.  When we were home she counted her candy and announced she didn't do as well as last year (80 some odd pieces versus over 90 last year), but she was satisfied and said it was okay.

So in the end, a satisfied child, even though she complained for the week prior about having to miss out on Halloween to go to Chinese school.
