Great America, Beach Blanket Babylon, and Spring Break

Another year, another season ticket to Great America.  Even though we've been going for years, Lauren's love of the place doesn't diminish, so I went ahead and trudged down to Costco and bought two more discounted season pass tickets for this year.  Lauris tends not to enjoy these outings so I didn't get him a pass.  We went for opening day (but late this year since Lauren wanted to go to her school's drama workshop in the morning, and I had some work to do in the house after our drain backed up again).  She loved it as usual and was a trooper through the long line we had to wait on to get our physical season pass cards.  I don't know why it takes them so long, but the line always lasts longer than an hour and is a real pain.

I also discovered some discounts on the San Francisco favorite activity, Beach Blanket Babylon and found out they have an "all ages" show, so we could bring Lauren.  She got to experience the big hat experience of Beach Blanket Babylon followed by a wonderful Italian dinner at Capp's restaurant.  Unfortunately she wasn't feeling the best that day, being under the weather with a cold and cough (which was eventually treated with some antibiotics since it lasted over 3 weeks).

Spring break also crept up on me, and seemed to be over in a blink of an eye.  We went camping in the new travel trailer for the first time and brought along Lauren's cousins, since it was their Spring break as well.  We drove down to Pismo Beach where we found a wonderful (and pricey) RV park with lots of amenities for the girls.  Unfortunately it rained the first day (which made the girls want to stay in the trailer and play), but it cleared up by the second day and we were able to head out to Hearst Castle for a tour.  During the week we also stopped by Mission San Luis Obispo and Mission San Miguel Arcangel.  There was also a stop in the little town of Harmony to watch glass blowing and buy pottery, and a a stop at the history museum in San Luis Obispo that had an exhibit on Phoebe Apperson Hearst, mother to William Randolph Hearst.

We learned that the travel trailer is a bit cramped to have all 3 girls with us, but overall it was a success and the girls had a lot of fun together for the week.
