On the weekend of the 13th of February my niece Mariah turned 5. To celebrate Marie hosted a birthday party on Sunday at the Sulphur Creek Nature Preserve in Hayward. It's a little bit off the beaten path, and difficult to find if you're not familiar with the area. Lauren and I actually got lost on Sunday trying to find it, and we had to resort to asking the car's SYNC system for help, which includes a turn-by-turn navigation service.
When we got there, we did easily spot Marie's car, so we knew we were in the right place. Lauren was excited to see Michaela and Mariah, and soon afterwards Charlotte and PJ also showed up. It was a great party, and the kids got to see a puppet show in addition to a live barnyard owl, along with a bunny and a chinchilla. Mariah, the birthday girl even got to hold the chinchilla and take her picture with it. The outdoor preserve also sported a lot of animals for viewing, most of which were injured and recuperating at the preserve.
After the party, we went to Marie and Michael's house so the girls could continue to play. Lauren had a great time, even though she did lament the fact that Mariah was now as old as she is.
