Welcome 2012

It's a new year, and with the new year comes new hopes and dreams, along with memories of the year past. We spent the last part of 2011 with family as usual, having our Christmas Eve dinner with aunts, uncles, cousins and the rest of the family. As usual we had too much to eat, and the kids were filled with anticipation all evening regarding their presents. Daniel was the most anxious, trying to get an angle on when and how he could get his present opened first. After a great evening with family, we settled in for the evening and got Lauren off to bed.

Lauren was of course the first to wake up and in awe of the presents down below that the elves had been busy making sure that stockings and presents were just right the previous evening. She's still young enough that she doesn't dive right into the presents and instead waited for her parents to awaken and join her before she went to open her first present.

Lauren got everything she wanted including the presents she specifically asked Santa for. This years big treats for her were Hello Kitty accessories (including a new scarf from her aunties), Pixos (those microbeads that stick together when you add water), and bunch of "Our Generation" accessories and doll (an American Girl-like doll).

After the morning wrapping paper explosion, we got about to getting ready for our trip down to Tucson. Our drive down was uneventful (a good thing), and we had a nice short week in Arizona. Lauren go to swim, see her sister and their family, and we got to relax for a week. I spent part of the week putting in new blinds in our bedroom to make the room darker in the mornings, and putting together a new dresser we picked up at IKEA before driving down to Tucson.

We were back in the Bay Area by New Year's day, and spent most of Monday taking down Christmas decorations and lights. We did get to spend part of Monday with Marie's family and Lauren's cousins, including an outing to see the movie "Arthur Christmas", which turned out to be a lot better than I expected.

Today marked the return to work and to school for Lauren.
