Well the little unborn baby girl decided to give us all a scare on Tuesday, but it turned out well and there were no problems in the end.
The surrogate had her weekly checkup on Tuesday morning, and they hooked her up to a fetal heart monitor to see how the baby was doing. It turned out her activity level was below normal, they called her "sluggish". So they asked the surrogate to go and have lunch to see if that would increase the baby's activity level (normally eating should increase a baby's activity level).
After lunch they continued to monitor the baby, but there was no increase in the activity level, so they asked the surrogate to stay for a few hours for observation.
During this time she had called us a few times to let us know what was going on. If the baby's activity level didn't pick up, the doctor wanted to induce labor that evening.
But apparently our little baby girl was just resting, since her activity level picked up in the afternoon, and reached normal levels. So they sent the surrogate home, and told her to come back next week for checkup next Tuesday (if the baby didn't come sooner). And if the baby still hadn't arrived, the doctor wants to induce labor on Wednesday, July 12.
So, in the end we got a little bit of a scare, which I'm sure will not be the last time this little girl gives me one, but all turned out okay for now.
