Merry Mother's Day in May

Yesterday was mother's day as well as the seventh seven day interval since my dad's passing. That mean's as of today it's been 50 days since he's passed away.

There are moments when it seems like everything's back to normal, but then there are moments I think "Geez, it's all different now". And somehow those two feelings manage to co-exist inside of me.

We started Sunday morning by going to temple as usual to pray and honor my dad, followed by a short stop as his grave site. Yesterday was the first time I took Lauren with me to temple and to the grave site. She's too small to understand what's going on, but I figured she'd like to know when she's older that she too got to honor her grandfather.

After the cemetery visit, Sufen and Annette treated all of us (especially the moms) to brunch at Park Place, a new restaurant in the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino. Amelia and Daniel were there as were grandkids Lauren, Michaela and Mariah, all wishing their grandmother a happy mother's day. Marie and Michael, my mom, Lars and myself were all there as well.

For dinner, my aunt Cathy planned for us to all meet at a Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Milpitas. Unfortunately Michael didn't feel well, and Lauren had a horrible crying fit. So it was just Aunt Cathy, Uncle Tao, their kids, Jeff and Eric, my mom, Marie, Michaela, Mariah and myself. Lars stayed home to try and console Lauren. We think now that she may have just been constipated and had stomach pains which were causing her to sob inconsolably. Today she's her happy self again. For those of you that don't know this yet, Eric chosen to go to UC Irvine this fall. Congratulations Eric!

One of the nice things about this weekend was the weather. Summer is here in full force and the weather has been in the 80's here in California. That prompted me to install a 15,000 BTU window air conditioner in the upstairs of our house on Saturday. I'm sure we'll find plenty of use for it this summer. Lars spent much of the rest of the weekend updating our flower beds, now that the spring tulips have faded.

Marie and Michael have to prepare soon for a big move as well. They placed an offer on a bigger home in San Leandro and it was accepted. They close escrow on their new home in mid-June. Good Luck to Marie and Michael!
