Memorial Day Weekend

This past Monday was Memorial Day, which meant we got one extra day off to spend with Lauren last weekend. The weekend itself was chock full of activity as we took Lauren to the Buddhist Temple on Sunday for their "Cherishing Youth Day 2008". Marie and Michael also took Michaela and Mariah and Grandma Mei tagged along as well. The three kids all had a lot of fun playing games and winning prizes. Each of the games had a moral and ethical lesson associated with them, but I think those lessons were lost on the 3 girls. Lauren played one game which was supposed to teach the value of listening to her parents, which she agreed she understood, but as soon as we got home, she said "No, I don't want to" to everything her Daddy asked her to do (like eat dinner, pick up after herself, and go potty).

Lauren's favorite part about going to Temple? Winning a big stuffed Teddy Bear, which her Great Aunt Cathy had a big hand in getting her a finished ticket to enter for the prize. Thanks Uncle Tao and Aunt Cathy for helping!

Later that day we also took Lauren to a late night at Great America. Lauren would go to Great America for any reason, but I specifically wanted to go Sunday, because they were having Memorial Day fireworks, and I wanted Lauren to experience fireworks for the first time. The fireworks didn't start until 9:45 pm so that meant we kept Lauren up way past her bedtime. But in the end it was worth it as she was completely mesmerized by the display of lights.
