Three Girls

Michaela, Lauren and Mariah are each developing into 3 different little girls. This is of course not unexpected, but it's been fascinating watching how each ones interests influence the interests and decisions of the other girls.

Michaela is of course the oldest, at 4 years and 3 months old. She has an incredible memory and still asks about her grandpa. She's memorized a lot of complete songs. Michaela is also the one used to all the attention as she was the first born of the three girls, so she's used to getting what she wants. Incredibly she's also probably the best behaved of the three, willing to share toys, candy, food, etc with her sister and cousin, and willing to listen to direction given to her by adults.

Lauren remains the outspoken one at the age of 3. While she's a little bit of a tomboy, she's been influenced by Mariah's love of dresses and has begun a small fascination with princesses. She loves to play pretend, especially doctor, and she'll usually rope in either Michaela or Mariah to play along as patient or doctor. She also likes to pretend to go "camping". Lauren likes to get her way, and hasn't really yet mastered the art of sharing, but she's getting better at it. She also likes to play in the yard, whether its with paint brushes, watering cans or blocks of wood, she can keep herself occupied for hours on end. Her vocabulary and speech remain way ahead of her age. As we like to say, she spoke complete paragraphs by the time she was 2. She prefers to be home rather than anywhere else in the world. While she gets excited by the idea of trips, she still would rather be home, just like her dad. All the girls love the pool, but Lauren lives there even if it's freezing cold. She has no problems with the water as long as she can keep her head above the water.

Mariah will always be the little one, and at the age of 2 and a half years, she's finally making her own mark. Rather being the tag along of the other two girls she's found her own identity as the feminine one. She will only wear dresses, the longer and frillier the better. She also is the one who goes to her grandma to be comforted and for affection. Perhaps it's because she knows that's the one place she can go and not have to compete for primary affection. Mariah remains the soft spoken one, so much so that some times you have to strain to hear her spoken word, that's of course not to say she can't scream when she needs to. She also remains perhaps the most independent of the three in that she's the one that is perfectly happy to ignore requests from adults.

Three girls, each growing up into their own individual personalities.
