Last Friday, the pain generated from the ascites (the fluid accumulation in the abdomen) was enough for us to need to take my mom to the emergency room. She spent Friday and Saturday nights at O'Connor hospital.
Since her pain was in the region of her chest, they wanted to run tests to make sure that her pain was not heart related. Luckily all the tests for problems with the heart came out negative, so no problems there.
While she was in the hospital they performed a paracentesis (removed the fluid from her abdomen) and they gave her a blood transfusion for the low red and white blood cell counts in her bloodstream.
After her blood transfusion completed on Sunday night, my mom was discharged, so she's home and resting now.
