This past weekend was Memorial Day, a 3 day weekend that we took full advantage of. It started on Friday, when we talked about going to Tahoe on Saturday. Lauren has been asking to see snow for almost an entire year, and we knew that there would be snow in Tahoe because of the recent storm, and the fact that a few ski resorts announced they would re-open for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Later Friday night I also realized that we could stop in Fairfield and visit the Jelly Belly factory, since Lauren has also recently become enchanted with Jelly Belly candies (especially ones from the Sanrio - Hello Kitty store). So we did just that. Saturday morning we left for Tahoe and stopped in Fairfield along the way. We did the factory tour at Jelly Belly, which included samples of new flavor jelly beans, and then bought pink, orange, and yellow jelly beans, followed by lunch at the Jelly Belly Cafe.
After lunch we were on our way to Tahoe. We arrived at the snow park just outside of South Lake Tahoe in the mid afternoon and let Lauren play around in the snow. We made a small snowman, but what Lauren enjoyed the most was throwing snow balls at her parents. Afterwards we headed into South Lake Tahoe, did some shopping at outlet stores, and then had dinner before heading back to the South Bay.
On Sunday, I had an appointment at Fry's in the morning to install an overhead DVD player in the minivan, but unfortunately they found the one I had selected wouldn't work in our car, so we ended up returning it. I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon on house fixing projects, before taking Lauren to Great America in the early evening.
She got to play a carnival game, that involved fishing for frogs and I let her spend enough to win a large stuffed pink unicorn, that has become one of her favorite toys since she won it. She had to carry it on every ride we went on at Great America that evening. We stayed for the Memorial Day fireworks which didn't begin until 9:45 PM, but Lauren stayed awake for it and watched the whole show, which I thought was rather long for a fireworks show, but Lauren later told me she thought it was too short. She fell asleep in the car before we were even out of the Great America parking lot.
With such a busy Saturday and Sunday, we let Lauren spend the Monday holiday relaxing at home while we finished chores around the house.
