This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend, which meant having Monday off. A few months ago we got invited to Lars' sister Linda's to attend the baptism of her first granddaughter. We accepted the invitation, and arranged a flight to Salt Lake City, the closest major airport to Evanston, Wyoming, where Linda lives with her family. Her daughter Tanya and husband Carl flew in from England where they live with their daughter Sophie.
Lauren was looking forward to this trip to meet baby Sophie, give Sophie a present and to ride on an airplane again. Lauren did pretty well for the entire trip, but the part she did not like at all were the long car rides. She complains about her back hurting during long car rides, even with a back pillow which we brought along for her. The weather was just a tad chilly in Wyoming but not too bad for the whole weekend.
We rented a small Honda Civic Hybrid once we landed in Salt Lake City and drove for about an hour and a half to Evanston, with Lauren complaining most of the time in the back seat. She was quite happy to get out of her car seat when we got to Evanston. Lauren warmed up to everyone after the first day, and was playing with almost everyone by the day of the baptism. Lauren had gone through her toys and found two baby rattles she no longer played with, and asked if we could give them to baby Sophie, so we let her wrap them up as a present for Sophie. Sophie seemed to enjoy them as she could easily grasp them and shake the rattles. Lauren was good throughout the ceremony at the church, although she did ask for a bathroom break towards the end, and Lars had to take her out.
We left on Monday, but not before stopping in Park City, Utah for a stroll through historic downtown. Lauren got to take some fun pictures with a bronze bear, a moose, and little cow. We turned in our Civic (which managed 47.5 mpg on our trip), and took the flight back home and we were home by dinner time on Monday. Overall a pretty successful trip.
