We've been going to church with Lauren for about a year now. Last year we didn't attend when they had Halloween festivities, but this year we managed to go. Unfortunately we forgot they were doing "Trunk or Treat", until we got to church. That meant Lauren didn't have a costume, so I slipped out and drove back home to fetch her Snow White gown, jewelry and pumpkin.
Lauren didn't know the difference, fortunately, and enjoyed seeing the kids at church all dressed up in their costumes. After services the kids all went to the back parking lot of the church, where volunteers had lined up all their cars with their trunks/hatches facing in one direction. Every trunk was popped open, and most were decorated with themes from Halloween. One trunk was lined with ghosts. Kids got to go from car to car, saying "trick or treat" and getting candy in a nice safe environment. Lauren was just thrilled to be getting candy. All in all this probably means she'll get to go trick or treating three times this Halloween. We plan on taking her to a mall event closer to Halloween and she's always allowed to visit two or three homes in the neighborhood.
