After having our home listed on the market in this down economy, we've decided to stop trying to sell our home. This of course coincides with Lauren's start of kindergarten, and we figured this was a good time to try and get our lives back, since we've been living kind of a half existence, in trying to keep the house neat for any and all possible showings. Now we can feel free leaving the house a mess if we have to and just go on living.
This also means we're cancelling our home purchase in Milpitas. While we really liked the house we had put an offer in on a short sale, it's unreasonable for us to buy a new home when we haven't sold our existing home.
So for the time being we're staying put, and probably for a while, since we don't want to move while Lauren's going to school. Since we were concerned about the schools, it also means for now, she's going to continue going to private school.
Keeping our existing home and sending Lauren to private school is of course going to continue to put a tax on resources. The good news here is that interest rates are at an all time low, so I'm planning on refinancing the house as soon as possible to take advantage of lower monthly payments. And if I can I'm also going to refinance the other homes we have as well. Keep your fingers crossed that all these refi's actually work out!
