After four and half years of hard work Lars finally completed the last requirements to obtaining his doctorate of education last week. He had an oral defense of his thesis on Thursday, and Jeff was kind enough to help out by acting as proctor for him.We celebrated by taking Lars out to dinner at Scott's Seafood in downtown San Jose on Saturday, and we also went to Sears to take some pictures of Lars in his graduation gown. We also took a few family portrait while we were there as well, so Lauren got dressed up in one of her fanciest lavender gowns.
On Sunday we invited Marie and her family to join us for a barbeque so the girls could play together. They haven't seen each other in a few weeks so it was quite an active afternoon for them. My uncle Tao and aunt Cathy also stopped by late after their drive home from Los Angeles. We celebrated Lars' doctorate again, with way too many desserts including the cake and cupcakes shown here that Lauren picked out. The blue frosting proved to be quite a hit with girls, turning their lips and tongues blue.
Before dinner on Sunday, Marie and I took a trip to the cemetery to leave flowers for our parents. We went by ourselves, as we couldn't convince the girls to leave their play to join us.
We had lots of plans for Monday, but ended up just staying home, and working around the house.
