Well, this post is a little late, but I wanted to update everyone who didn't go on what we did this past weekend for Mother's Day, and wish everyone I didn't see and is a mother, a belated happy Mother's Day.
We decided to get together with both my sisters and their families for Mother's day, so we met them up in San Francisco, at a restaurant up near the Presidio, called Shanghai Dumpling King, near Balboa St and 33rd Ave. It was a suggestion from Ling and Teresa. It was a wonderful lunch, and reminded me of my own mom, just because of her fondness for Shanghai dumplings. Shanghai dumplings (also known as "purse soup dumplings") was one of the dishes my mom would get excited about and insist on trying a restaurant if they served them and had a good reputation for them.
Afterwards, we drove over to the Asian Art Museum where I've been a member for at least 8 or 10 years, but I haven't been there in at least 6 or more years. It was the first time we took Lauren, and it gave me an opportunity to check out the "Place of Honor" where they've got my dad's name again. The picture here with the girls is in front of the sign that includes my dad's name.
In honor of Mother's Day the Asian Art Museum was holding a family activity day, so there was lots of crafts and activities for the kids to enjoy, and we also got to go on a private kids tour of the Balinese art exhibit, where the docent explained the use of animals in Balinese art and had the kids search for animals in various pieces of art.
We ended the day at the museum by attending a demonstrantion of Balinese and Javanese dancing, in which Mariah, got up and participated in the practice and learning session. Michaela and Lauren on the other hand were too shy to go up and join Mariah.
In all, a very nice day with the family, and a great way to honor our own mother.
