New Oncologist

As most of you know, my mom's been seeing the same oncologist my dad saw before he passed away. Dr. Marcus' office is in Redwood City, a good distance away from our home in San Jose. Dr. Marcus was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is now only seeing patients two days a week.

This combined with the return of my mom's breast cancer made us decide to start looking for a new oncologist. I found a Chinese speaking oncologist in San Jose, who also happened to be female. I figured my mom would be the most comfortable with a doctor with these qualifications. So I was able to setup an appointment with the new doctor and Marie and Sufen were able to go with her to the appointment.

Everyone seemed to like the new doctor, so we're going to switch, and the doctor's visits will be a lot more convenient. Right now the first course of order is to get a baseline on my mom's stats, so she's getting a CT scan tomorrow and all new lab work.

She'll then have the followup appointment with the oncologist next friday. Most likely then she'll start her course of treatment, probably Xeloda, a form of oral chemotherapy.

While we were switching to a local oncologist, I also checked into changing primary care physicians for my mom, sincer her primary care physician (also near Redwood City), is leaving his practice. I've made an appointment for to meet with a new doctor who's also Chinese and female, but this one doesn't speak Chinese, but at least she's in San Jose.

Right now, though my mom has more problems with her teeth and has been seeing a dentist about a tooth that has fallen out and another one that is loose. In addition the dentist has referred her to an oral surgeon, to have a biopsy of a mass that he discovered on her upper gum.

So there's lots of appointments to see lots of doctors in the next couple of weeks.
