Photography has been an on and off passion for my family for a long time. My dad was an enthusiast during much of my younger years. From the time we moved to the United States until our teens, my dad took and developed many of his own pictures. Naturally they were black and white by necessity due to the limitations of technology for home developing at that time.
As a result almost all of the photos of my sisters and I at a very young age are black and white, and there are very few that actually include my father, since he was the photographer.
My sister Marie picked up on this photography passion, partially because of her major in college (architecture), that led her to have many art based courses requiring photography.
The development of digital photography has brought my dad back into the realm of the home photo developer. Especially now with the birth of Michaela, my dad is back pursuing photography with a vengeance. Every time he sees Michaela, it's another memory stick filled with photos. While my sisters and I may have limited photographs from when were babies, Michaela will have no shortage of pictures to look over when she's a young lady.
Of course digital cameras and photo printers means every one can be a budding photographer. My sister Su fen and I are no exceptions having done our fair share of digital photos. Although I have to say my favorite part of the digital age isn't taking new pictures and printing them, it's the ability to take an old, small tiny photograph, scan it in high resolution and print enlargements and reprints that have been retouched, refocused, and rebalanced to re-enjoy for additional family, friends, and future generations.
